The BIRMINGHAM REPERTORY Theatre are searching for an Assistant Director for Tessa Walker’s forthcoming large-scale production of The Mother to play in the West Midlands leading producing theatre. The play, adapated by playwright Maerk Ravenhill, will play the theatres main house from March 10 2014.
The Assistant Director bursary is provided through a partnership with the The James Menzies Kitchen Trust and the The BIRMINGHAM REP
In addition to a director’s bursary of £2250, the recipient will be inaugurated into the Birmingham Repertory Theatre Directors’ Group, and be responsible to support the group.
Any interested cadidates will need to be available for commenecement of pre-production and rehearsals from January 2014, including evenings and weekends. Interview for the prestigous assistant director role will be Thursday 12 December.
Specific Requirements.
The production of The Mother will feature a large community choir and dance, and therefore Birmingham Rep is keen to hear from applicants who have movement or choreographic experience and applicants who have experience working with large community projects, and directing large numbers of people.
As well as assisting the dircetor other responsibilities will include:
Carrying out any research that will inform and benefit the production.
Nurturing links with community acting companies.
Running rehearsals and supervise the directing of section of the production
Inputting in discussions and production meetings.
Documenting the rehearsal process for the purposes of marketing, archive and evaluation.
Observing and supporting the Director in the production week as required.
Attending and noting the production when it is in performance.
Any further duties as required by the Director.
