A contemporary re-telling of the life and death of Jesus will be staged in a gripping production in Birmingham this Easter, which will lead its audience around Birmingham as each scene unfolds
Passion returns, with a fresh re-working of its sell-out run in 2014. This immersive, promenade production reimagines one of the world’s most important stories, the life and death of Jesus Christ, as a gripping contemporary drama, leading its audience through and around St Paul’s Square in the Jewellery Quarter, taking audiences to locations many have never seen before! In each new location, a new scene unfolds.
A Passion For Birmingham, Directed by Tracey Street, is an exciting and ambitious event for the whole community of multi-cultural Birmingham, re-imagining one of the world’s most important stories, the life and death of Jesus Christ.
A stranger arrives in Birmingham City Centre as the biggest festival in its history begins. The events of the next few days will turn the world upside down.
Told in the style of a gripping contemporary drama and a political thriller, the production promises a study of the abuse of political and religious power, and of friendships ripped apart and rebuilt, exploring timeless themes of love, betrayal and redemption.
Co-producer Gavin Young told us:
This year, really, sees the production come of age, allowing audiences new angles and a deeper look at this timeless drama. We have had the opportunity to rework the script so that the contemporary feel of the show is complete and also so that we could build on some of the pivotal characters who only had minor roles before. What’s more is that many roles have been recast and actors have switched roles too so as provide an even fresher take on the story.
