Rocky Horror Unleashed
Rocky Horror is about to be unleashed from his chains and set loose on the virgins of Wolverhampton for his central – and somewhat unclad appearance – in the unhibited, rock-and-roll camp fest, which is ‘The Rocky Horror Show’.
To celebrate this fact, I would like, if I may, to take you on a journey to a slightly more alternative Rocky Horror. That being the fantastic tribute show currently playing at Universal Studios Florida as part of their anuual Halloween Horror Nights event.
Its a faithful live stage re-production of the movie version of the 70’s cult musical, complete with amazingly accurate portrayal of all the main characters and scenes, and really well worth watching.
Charles Atlas Seal of Approval
If the video has given you a taste for Rocky, then you can feast on the full evening of decadent fun at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre, when the party comes to town from Monday 28 October to Saturday 2 November 2013.
For all you Rocky Horror virgins out there, the show first played at the Royal Court Theatre London in the summer 1973, subsequently made into a movie. The movie, which starred Susan Sarandon, Meatloaf and Tim Curry, is now considered a cult classic and has made millions of pounds for the shows creator – Richard O’Brien – who als played Riff Raff, the ‘not so loyal’ man servant.
However the movie never really wowed the critics, unlike the stage version, which has toured to packed houses almost non-stop over four decades, and celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Richard O’Brien’s ROCKY HORROR SHOW has been voted the world’s favourite Rock ‘n’ Roll musical. It has been performed worldwide in over 30 countries in every continent and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
It was strange the way it happened. Suddenly… you get a break! All of the pieces seem to fit into place. What a sucker you’ve been, what a fool. The answer was there all the time. It took a small aciddent to make it happen. AN ACCIDENT!
Hot Patootie, Bless My Soul
The show features a bloodbath of musical numbers that you are sure to recognise, including ‘Sweet Transvestite’ and the pelvic-thrusting party favourite ‘The Time Warp’. Also amongst the cast of sterotypical ‘Hollywood B Movie’ characters, is withoudt doubt one of the most memorbale leading male parts (oooer) ever created. That being ‘Dr FrankNFurter’ – the mad scientist hell bent (I just can’t stop myself) on creating the perfect man for his own sadistic pleasure. The part has been played by many famous and somewhat unlikeley names, including Jason Donovan.
Rare Interviews
But the main man, that no one has ever quite been able to top, (cough!), was the FrankNfurter’s original performer, Tim Curry, who played him both on the original stage versions here and on Broadway, as well as in the movie.
Below are a couple of rare interviews with Tim Curry, and the show’s creator Rickard O’Brien about their roles and involvement in the Rocky Horror Phenomenon.
