This month the Birmingham MAC welcomes the outrageous, hilarious and fearless performance artist Bryony Kimmings and her somewhat outrageous, hilarious and fearless advertising account manager partner Tim who together perform the award-winning ‘Fake it ‘til you Make it’.
‘Fake it ‘til you Make it’ addresses the often undiagnosed symptoms of clinical depression amongst men. Made in collaboration with her partner Tim Grayburn, Bryony embarked on the project when she discovered that he suffered severely from the illness. Asking why we find depression hard to talk about and how we cope when it arises, the show is a heart-warming, honest and funny investigation of the attributes required to be a ‘real man’.
Bryony Kimmings is well known for creating superb full-length theatre, cabaret and spoken word performances, homemade music, audio installations and documentaries. Inspired by the taboos, stigmas, anomalies and social injustices of British culture and seeking to provoke change, she works autobiographically and typically begins to develop each new production via a novel social experiment.
The piece won a Fringe First Winner at the Edinburgh Festival, and expect homemade music, stupid dancing, onstage arguments, real-life stories, tears and truths. A wickedly warming, brutally honest and heart-breaking show about the wonders and pitfalls of the human brain, being in love and what it takes to be a ‘real man’.
