English Touring Opera and the Grand Theatre present the world premiere of a brand new opera created especially for the city of Wolverhampton.
ZEPPELIN DREAMS explores the tragic events of 100 years ago, when a huge Graf Zeppelin airship, lost in the fog and bound for the docks in Liverpool, dropped its bombs on Wolverhampton. The opera binds the present with the past, and is performed by 150 local people and ETO professionals.
This new community opera is a partnership with the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and the Wolverhampton Music Education Hub. It builds on the great success of A House on the Moon, ETO’s last community opera created with the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre in 2007.
ETO are working with nine separate groups of different ages, skills and abilities. Participants from schools, local young people’s and adult theatre companies, the music education hub, and community groups are invited to help write the opera’s lyrics, storylines and songs, and finally perform on stage at the Grand Theatre.
