A theatre promotion scheme in the Black Country which gives young people the opportunity to bring a professional theatre show into their community is celebrating after winning a new grant
The young promoter scheme is a great way of developing skills and encouraging young people by giving them the responsibility of organising and promoting a professional theatre show, which they get to choose.
The scheme, initally lainched in 2000, has been developed by Black Country Touring, an organsation that brings some of the best professional touring theatre and dance from the UK and beyond to the local communities across Wolverhampton, Walsall Dudley and Sandwell,
Bringing professional theatre to the community
The professionnal shows the young people help to promote can be staged at a school, college, youth club or even a local library. The young people involved get to organise the event and in the process develop new skills in, such as event management, marketing, budgeting and hospitality.Whilst encouraging them to work together for the benefit of their community and of course have lots of fun!
The scheme is made possible by funding from the Arts Council and local authority funding. The grant awarded from the J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust is smaller in comparison and will be used to support a project within the scheme.
Over the course of the last 28 years the J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable trust has awarded around 70 million pounds to charities in the UK. The Young Promoter Scheme has been awarded a grant due to it’s focus on community engagement, aims in improving prospects for young people and in sustaining the arts.
